For starters, physical therapists are experts in the neuromusculoskeletal system, and we use our knowledge of how the body works and moves to help people feel and move better – without the use of medication or surgery.
Now, pelvic health physical therapy is a specialized field in physical therapy, where we work with all things pelvic-floor-related. This means: how you pee, how you poop, and how sex is going for you. Additionally, abdominal health is a large component of our work (think hysterectomy care, cesarean delivery recovery and pregnancy!). This is because our pelvic floor and abdominal muscles play a big role in our bladder, bowel and sexual function, as well as overall movement.
Check out this interview I had with my friend Austin Madriaga of The PT Lounge, where I talk more about what pelvic health physical therapy is and who we can help!
